Wikipedia - Campeonato de Portugal (league)

The Campeonato de Portugal (Portuguese for 'Championship of Portugal') is the fourth level of the Portuguese football league system. Together with the third-tier Liga 3, it is organized by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF).

The Campeonato de Portugal was introduced in 2013 as the new third-level championship, under the name Campeonato Nacional de Seniores (Seniors National Championship), replacing both the Segunda Divisão and Terceira Divisão (former third and fourth divisions, respectively). On 22 October 2015, it adopted its current naming. With the creation of the Liga 3 as the new third division from the 2021–22 season, the Campeonato de Portugal was demoted one level.

Die Campeonato Nacional ist die höchste portugiesische Fußballliga und wurde 1934 gegründet. Sie besteht aus 18 Mannschaften, die in einer Doppelrunde gegeneinander antreten. Der Meister qualifiziert sich für die UEFA Champions League, der Zweitplatzierte für die UEFA Europa League.

Die Campeonato Nacional ist eine der stärksten Ligen in Europa und hat in den letzten Jahren mehrere Top-Klubs hervorgebracht, darunter Benfica Lissabon, FC Porto und Sporting Lissabon. Diese Klubs haben alle schon mehrere nationale Meistertitel gewonnen und auch in europäischen Wettbewerben erfolgreich teilgenommen.

Die Liga ist bekannt für ihre hohe Qualität und Intensität, und die Spiele ziehen regelmäßig große Zuschauerzahlen an. Sie ist auch eine Quelle des Nationalstolzes für Portugal und hat viele der besten Spieler des Landes hervorgebracht.
