Rothes

Rothes Football Club is a senior football club who play in the Highland Football League. They were originally founded in 1907 as a Junior club, Rothes Victoria, and turned Senior on 4 May 1938 as Rothes FC, obtaining a place in the Highland League. They play at Mackessack Park in Rothes, a small town near Elgin in Moray. They play in tangerine shirts, colours they inherited from Dundee United after purchasing the floodlights from Tannadice Park. Rothes have won the Highland League once, in the 1958–59 season. Mackessack Park is named after one Douglas Mackessack, a local laird and whisky magnate and an early benefactor of the club.

In 2020, The Speysiders won their first honours in 41 years, defeating Buckie Thistle 2–1 in the Highland League Cup final to win the trophy for the first time.

Der Fußballverein Rothes wurde 1888 in der Stadt Rothes in der schottischen Grafschaft Moray gegründet. Der Verein ist auch als The Speysiders bekannt, was auf seine Lage am Fluss Spey verweisen.

Rothes spielt seine Heimspiele im Mackessack Park in Rothes und tritt derzeit in der Highland Football League an, der obersten Spielklasse im schottischen Nicht-Ligensystem. Der Verein hat in seiner Geschichte noch nie eine nationale Trophäe gewonnen, hat aber zahlreiche regionale Titel errungenen, darunter den Highland League Cup und den Aberdeenshire Cup.

Zu den bekanntesten Spielern, die für Rothes aufgelaufen sind, gehören der ehemalige schottische Nationalspieler Brian Irvine und der ehemalige Aberdeen- und Portsmouth-Stürmer Eoin Jess. Der Verein wird derzeit von Ross Jack trainiert, der im Juli 2022 die Nachfolge von Steven MacDonald angetreten ist.

Rothes hat eine treue Fangemeinde, die als "The Red Army" bekannt ist. Der Verein ist auch für seine starke Jugendarbeit bekannt und hat in den letzten Jahren eine Reihe talentierter Spieler hervorgebracht.
